About the Author Rafael R. Shabetai has been in the International Markets Individual Life Insurance for 4 decades. He retired as Vice President and Chief Underwriter of Pan-American Life Insurance Group in 2021 and currently is the consulting International Life Chief Underwriter at Manhattan-Trust International Insurer, a subsidiary of Manhattan Life. Formerly, he was Director of International Underwriting for Lincoln Re in Buenos Aires, Senior Underwriter at American Bankers Life, and an underwriter at Sabina International Group. He was founder of the International Underwriting Study Group in 2004. He also served as Editor-in-Chief of ON THE RISK, the Journal of the Academy of Life Underwriting , and was the creator of the new cover design and new type fonts that are still in use today, and as a contributor, he was Latin American Editor and Carib - bean Editor. He is also a journalist, broadcaster and on-air personality for over 50 years in Spanish-speaking media, and the Division Commander and Interpreter of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Rafael graduated from the School of Law, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and from the Institute of Social Communications of Argentina.
